I saw Pirates finally. Despite the rumors abounding it, it's your typical movie: it's got its good points, and its bad points. Allow me to elaborate. Before anything however, SPOILERZ. Skip to the last paragraph if you don't want any of em.
The things I really liked are many. For one, the cg effects. I'm only human, I like to be amazed. And amazed I was. Those pirate fish zombies were freakin awesome. They totally creeped the hell outta me. I dunno, somethin about normal, everyday people becoming those mutated freaks is kinda... ew. Then there was the Kraken. Ohhh boy, the Kraken. A more ingeniously designed beast I haven't seen in a long, long time! The amount of work it must have taken that one artist to produce it must have been intense! I was almost beside myself when I saw it (granted, the thought of an underwater monster had always enthralled/terrified me). Truly a sight to behold. I also liked the recurrence of some of the old crew from the Pearl (y'know, ol' one eye and his chubby friend). Those two are the crazy comic relief duo. I certainly laughed at their crazy antics.
However, with a good, there's always a bad. I wasn't particularly fond of Elizabeth trotting around like a whore and cuffing senior Sparrow to a Goddamn pole. I mean, I've heard of using looks to your advantages, but damn bitch: that was cold. And then there was the super ultra mega swordfight. I mean, I know that it's supposed to be all high tense and crap, but... c'mon man. Let's see more theatrics, less prolonged fight. If I wanna watch DBZ, I'll watch DBZ. Finally, the thing that kinda miffed me the most had to be the recurrence of Barbosa. I mean, for Christ's sakes it was cool when he died in the first movie. He had an awesome death, one that any man would be proud of. And then he's brought back? Come now McMovie pants. Jack killed em. Sora killed em (Viva La KHII!), and now he's gotta die a third time? Damn dude...
So to sum up, I give it the ol' 8/10. A couple things irked me, though not enough to ruin the whole movie. Honestly, I suggest to all to go see it. Pirates > ninjas.

What I didn't like...
Swordfight too long.
Jones too comical in appearance.
And they weren't zombies or undead, they were still alive. ;D
Barbossa, though, did die. You aren't mistaken.
The implication is that he came BACK from death, so who better to lead them there to rescue Sparrow, who is also dead?
Overall, I thought it was great.
